Should I freeze my meat when I receive it?
We believe that fresh meat has the best flavour and texture. That said, if you must freeze your meat, leave it in its packaging, or portion and wrap individual steak in Zip Lock bags and store it in your freezer at -18 C.

How long will the meat last in my freezer?
Your order from Argyle Black is packaged in vacuum-sealed material so it can be transported safely. The temperature in your freezer should be -18 C or below. Kept in this packaging and in this temperature range, beef will keep for 6 – 8 months. Lamb and veal should be used within 3 to 6 months. Pork should be used within 2 to 3 months.
I put my meat in the freezer when I received it. How should I defrost it?
For best results you should defrost the meat slowly in your refrigerator overnight in original vacuum packaging. Large pieces may take 48 hours to defrost fully. You can also defrost in the slightly warmer vegetable compartment of your fridge (if you have one).
The vacuum-sealed packaging on my meat is damaged. What should I do?
As long as the meat is still cool to the touch, it is safe to consume, even if the meat’s packaging has broken.
My package arrived late. Is the meat safe to eat?
Our products are packed to withstand up to 8 hours of unrefrigerated shipping. Occasionally, a package might be delayed due to traffic problems, etc. If your package arrives within 8 hours of shipping the meat should be fine to consume. If it is cool to the touch when it arrives it is safe to eat.
Why are my selections brown when I open the box? Is this normal?
Yes, brown coloration is normal on vacuum-sealed meat which it has not been exposed to any oxygen during transit. Within 10 to 15 minutes of opening the vacuum-sealed packaging, the meat will “bloom,” turning red as it is exposed to the oxygen in the air.
I noticed a peculiar odor when I opened my vacuum-sealed meat. Is this normal, and is it safe to eat?
Yes, vacuum packed meat has a musky odor when first opened. As long as your meat is cool to the touch when it arrives, it is safe to eat.
